How long does it take to complete the courses?

For the Learning Path - We suggest you plan for your Learning Journey in this course to take about 6-8 hours. The course content itself is less than that, but please allow this extra time to complete the reading assignments and to take the Asset Management Readiness Scale assessment. It is delivered online and you can take it at whatever pace suits you best. It is a mixture of video, multimedia, reading and demonstration lessons. It includes several external resources and lots of fun interactive quizzes.

Who is the Learning Path course for?

​

This course was developed and tailored to Municipal staff of small urban and rural municipalities in Saskatchewan with a population of less than 1000. The content is aimed for a new learner, and the measurement of success we use is to have learners progress to reach a Level 2 on the FCM Asset Management Readiness Scale. Of course anyone is welcome to join us and the content is relevant to anyone who’s interested in gaining a better understanding of the asset management context and the basics.

What topics will be covered in the Learning Path?

 

We've assembled a team of world class instructors, some you likely already know to teach the fundamental topics. Our main 3 takeaways from the course is that you:

• Will be able to define Asset Management in your own words

• Be able to articulate the benefits of Asset Management

• Know how to get to Level 2 on the Asset Management Readiness Scale.

 

The first part of the course focuses on the who, what, where, when, why and how when it comes to Asset Management. From there we explore the more technical topics including lifecycle costing, the asset register, levels of service, risk, the bigger picture, and the Gas Tax. Then we will walk you through how to use the Asset Management Readiness Scale looking at Levels 1-2. And the grande finale will share tips and interviews from real Asset Management champions in order to give real examples of this knowledge put to the test in municipal government.
